Early Childhood Families, during the month of October, our Early Childhood Preschool Program will be participating in our regularly scheduled monitoring visit from the McCormick Institute for Early Childhood. All early childhood programs funded through the Illinois State Board of Education participate in this visit every 3-4 years. Assessors will be visiting your child's classroom. They will not be interacting with your child; they are simply observing the early learning environment which includes instruction. Your child may come home and let you know that a visitor was at school to watch them work. Kim Nelson, Executive Director of Early Childhood

Miss Lisa Bubela's class observed a caterpillar turn into a monarch butterfly. A monarch caterpillar transforms into a butterfly through a process called complete metamorphosis, which involves feeding on milkweed and growing through five stages (instars) over 10-14 days. It then forms a "J" shape, sheds its skin one final time to become a chrysalis, and undergoes transformation during the pupa stage over another 10-14 days. The chrysalis becomes transparent, signaling the adult butterfly is ready to emerge, expand its wings, and fly.
